Home Run

Bear with me a second. I’ll get to the point, I promise.

I just read this article:

From Only a $300 Million Blip in the Marketing Services Sector in 2003, Word-of-Mouth Spending is Expected to Reach $3 Billion in 2013

Oh my!

Word of mouth. Now, we all know that’s a pretty broad category. And we know that everyone is defining it in different ways. We’re deeply engrossed in these trends, as how people communicate and behave online deeply affect what we as netnographers (virtual ethnographers, if you prefer) live and breath, think and analyze.

Okay, now to my point. (Sorry, I get carried away.)

Tomorrow, I’ll be attending my second WOM Slam. To borrow Jeremy Epstein’s words, “A WOM Slam is a fast-paced networking/educational/business solutions event where smart people come together to generate Word of Mouth (WOM) marketing ideas for the client of the night.”

But in this case, it’s the morning! “Combating Hunger, Creating Opportunity” is DC Central Kitchen’s mission (I’ve written about them before) and the WOM Slam community will see firsthand how they go about doing that (and Jeremy assures us that there are some really good stories there and I know better than to doubt him).

So if you need me tomorrow morning, I’ll be having a gourmet breakfast, seeing what a ton of food looks like and touring DC Central Kitchen. And I’ll be finished by 10:00 a.m.

Yup, you have to get up pretty early to scare me.

(Wish me luck. Hopefully, I’ll be on Peter LaMotte’s team.)
